A masterbatch is a concentrated additive used to give color or functional properties to plastic raw material. Choosing the wrong masterbatch can lead to quality defects such as color deviation, dispersion problems and mechanical weakness. Therefore, several critical factors must be considered during the selection process.
Carrier Resin Compatibility
The carrier resin of the masterbatch must be compatible with the base polymer you use. For example, using a PE-carrier masterbatch in PP production can cause uneven dispersion and surface defects. A compatible carrier ensures the pigment is distributed evenly throughout the product.
Dosage Ratio and Color Intensity
Masterbatches with high pigment loading work at lower dosages and provide a cost advantage. However, the dosage ratio should be determined by considering the desired shade and opacity. Confirming color with sample production prevents surprises in mass production.
